Jan Willem de Visser, trainer at the tennisclub Animo, founded Badminton Club Terneuzen on January 20 1970. The first shuttles were hit in the small sports hall with only one court and low ceiling in the Bellamystraat. Due to an explosive growth in the number of members, they soon moved to the sports hall 't Zwaantje in Terneuzen.
In the early years the main focuse is on competitive play. In top years there were as much as 14 senior teams and 11 junior teams. They participated in various tournaments, also national and international tournaments were organized in Terneuzen.
In the 1980s, there is gradually more room for recreational players, clubtournaments are organized specially for this group of players. Which from 1985 onwards have been united under the name PEP-tournament (Plezier En Prestatie / Fun and Performance). In the mid-1990s, a group of players aged 55+ joined the club. To the present day this group still plays every Tuesday morning.
Since the 1970s we had a club magazine called "het Slagblad" which was handed out to members until 2019. This magazine informed our members with information about the club, tournaments and had stories about players. And articles about the badmintonsport.
In 2020, the year of our 50th anniversary, the badminton club still consists largely of recreational players from all age groups, youth, seniors and 55+. Competitive teams among the seniors and youth are also still part of our club.
